Real Lifelock Review: What Does it Provide and How Does it Compare?

Leave your own Lifelock reviews at the bottom of this page in the comment section here.

Compare LifelockYou can read Lifelock reviews all over the internet, but many of those writers are uninformed.  This is not 2009 or 2010It’s  2012 and Lifelock has made a lot of changes to become the clear leader in identity theft protection.  They don’t just scan your credit report to make sure it looks good, because some identity thieves are assuming identities to get jobs, medical care, and other things that would not show up on a credit report.

Lifelock Ultimate has JUST come out a few weeks ago and it's a gamechanger!  Basically, in addition to all of the other Lifelock services you get full credit monitoring from all 3 credit bureaus and something else that no other identity theft service provides..... bank account fraud protection.  With Lifelock Ultimate your checking and savings accounts are protected with instant alerts if any changes are made to your accounts or if someone tries to open a bank account with your information.

Check out the benefits of the all new Lifelock Ultimate Here

No other company scans the internet like Lifelock, making sure your personal information is secure.

Lifelock is one of the only services that scours the web and the over 10,000 chat rooms and forums where ID thieves exchange information.  If your social security number or credit card numbers show up in scanners they will take action immediately.

If you don’t have an identity protection service and your identity is stolen you will have to do all of the ground work yourself.  So get ready for countless hours on the phone and filling out forms.  You will probably have to take some time off of work as well, which will just cost you more money.  The tiny $10 a month for some top notch identity protection is well worth it in my opinion.

Right now you can sign up for Lifelock and save 10% with the link below.  This is because we have partnered with Lifelock and have a material connection with the company.  You can try them out and see how much you like having peace of mind when it comes to the security of your information.

Lifelock offers an extra level of protection that other services like Trusted ID simply do not have.

They don’t just monitor your credit, they monitor public records and court records as well.  If someone tries to use your name, address, or get a loan with your social security number, Lifelock will know about it and take action right away.

Their online surveillance is second to none as well, and they are always scanning the internet to see if your information ever pops up.  And if your identity every gets stolen because Lifelock failed to do their job, you will receive up to a million dollars in aid from lawyers and professionals to help you get your life back together.  Read more about the million dollar guarantee here.

Identity theft can still happen to anyone, and even though people with Lifelock have a much better chance of NOT getting their identity stolen, if this does every happen to you the company will help you restore your ID.  Read all about how Lifelock helps restore your identity here.

Don’t forget that identity thieves are going after young children as well.  They like to take the identities of children because often they don’t even know what has happened until they try to apply for a credit card later on in life. Lifelock offers protection for children to make sure they will not have their credit ruined before they even have a chance to live on their own.

Is Lifelock is just a waste of your money?

Absolutely not..  But if all you need is a credit monitoring service and you want to just freeze your credit on your own, you can do this yourself and you don’t need Lifelock’s help.  However, and this is a biggie, Lifelock offers a LOT more than just credit protection.

Ok, here is the problem.  Even though you can do some of the things Lifelock does on your own, most people never do.

Life gets busy, and it’s hard to remember to check your credit reports and monitor all activity on a regular basis.  But it only takes one identity thief to ruin your credit and destroy your peace of mind.

If you are the kind of person that just likes to “set it and forget it”, Lifelock may be a service for you.  If you want to spend every waking minute checking with the 3 credit burueas and talking to credit card companies on the phone, then maybe you should save your money, and possibly consider working for the police department.

But here are 5 GOOD reasons Lifelock may be for you

    • If you want to get automatic email or phone alerts when something is wrong with your credit (instead of doing it yourself and forgetting one day).
    • If you want 24/7 customer support just in case you ever have a question or concern about your identity.
    • If you like having the peace of mind that if your identity does get stolen, Lifelock will help you put your life back together. (again, 24/7)
    • If you’d rather have a network of people and computers scanning the internet, public records, and criminal websites that illegally sell information to make sure your ID and private data is safe.
    • If you don’t mind taking the 3 minutes it takes to get signed up.  (Special for our readers: Sign up with Lifelock through any links on this page and get 10% off- Click Here to try it out)

You may not recognize the new Lifelock

If it’s been a while since you checked out Lifelock, you must know that Lifelock offers much more advanced services than it did just 5 years ago.   The company was originally one of the first to offer fraud alerts and practically every other ID theft protection service on the planet has followed in their footsteps to offer fraud alerts as well.

    #1 in Identity Theft Protection

The problem is…. you need MORE than just fraud alerts, and besides, you can get those setup yourself by contacting the different credit bureaus.  You just have to prove that you are you and it takes a few minutes.  So any identity theft service that hangs its hat on offering credit fraud alerts and offers no other value is pretty much a waste of time and money.

The other problem with fraud alerts is that they only notify you AFTER there has already been a breach of your personal security.  And after someone has already stolen your identity is a little too late in my opinion.

So what did Lifelock do?  They raised the bar with Lifelock Command Center.  As the ads say, “This aint your gramma’s Lifelock!”

Lifelock Command Center is an early warning protection service that is actually PROactive instead of Reactive.  Lifelock’s system will scan court records, public records, alias records, file-sharing websites, and known criminal websites where private data is exchanged.  The scour these databases looking for any data that matches your own.  This way, if your social security number, bank account number or other private information IS stolen, they can track it down in the vast world of the internet and stop it BEFORE it becomes a problem in the wrong hands.

Some identity theft protection companies JUST focus on your credit, but a lot more than that is at stake in today’s world.  People have been arrested because their ID was stolen and someone used it to commit a crime, and scanning court records and criminal exchange websites it a huge step in the right direction for the company.

How often does Lifelock scan these databases and websites for your information?
    Every day!

    A few cons about Lifelock:

Well we don’t love everything about this company, even though they offer one of the best services for fighting identity theft.  Here are two things we don’t like about Lifelock, just to be open and honest.

    • They have a B grade with the BBB.  Mainly this is because of people who had just the basic Lifelock plan with fraud monitoring and they really needed the protection the command center offers.  But since the recent changes complaints have actually been down.
    • They do not offer a family plan currently, however they do have special plans for children that only cost an extra $2.50 per month.  If this is a problem you can always check out Trusted ID here, which DOES offer great family plans for affordable rates

    A few pros about Lifelock:

There is a reason Lifelock is one of the most well-known and respected identity theft protection services available, and below are a few reasons why we recommend Lifelock to our friends and family.

    • Lifelock has direct access to fraud resolution teams and has partnerships with the FBI, NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance), and the NCPC (National Crime Prevention Council).  They’re pretty serious about this ID theft thing.
    • Unlimited access to your online credit management info like credit reports, scores, and tracking.
    • The 3 credit bureaus are monitored DAILY  (not monthly like some services).
    • Nationwide monitoring for payday loans
    • Lifelock offers WAY more than just credit monitoring with their survellaince of criminal exchange websites, court records, criminal records, and even file-sharing sites, where a lot of crooks hangout.

(A little gift to our readers)

Ok, so how much does Lifelock REALLY cost?

Is it really only $10 a month?   Well, not really.   But it depends on which plan you choose.  There is the standard Lifelock policy for $10 a month or $110 a year, and then there is "Lifelock Command Center" which costs $15 a month or $165 per year.

Don't waste your money on the $10 a month plan.  Seriously.  If you are going to use that plan you might as well just freeze your credit yourself and take the necessary steps to stop all junk mail.  Of course, if you don't want to do this yourself you can always let Lifelock do it for you.

The plan I recommend is the Command Center plan since it offers monitoring of public records, court records, and file sharing sites.  This is done on a daily basis and it offers an extra level of protection that you simply cannot do yourself.

Signing up for the entire year will take one payment off and if you sign up through our link below it will save you an EXTRA 10%.  Is Lifelock for you?  Why not check out the link below to find out more as well:

There are a lot of Lifelock reviews online that really don't give the WHOLE story.  Many of these are written by affiliates just trying to make money off the program, and although we are affiliates of Lifelock as well, we aren't afraid to tell the truth about identity theft protection programs.   Because we are affiliates of Lifelock we are able to offer you a 10% discount through any links found on this page, but we ask you NOT to sign up for the program until you have read this review below.

After comparing Lifelock to Trusted ID, Protect My Id, and Identity Guard, we found Lifelock Command Center offered a greater level of protection for the money.  But only the Command Center option will give you this coverage and not the basic Lifelock.

Because of our relationship with Lifelock we are able to offer a 10% discount to our readers:

      1. Pete says:

I decided to sign up for the Command Center plan with Lifelock since it offers so much more than the basic plan. I don’t know if any other companies have systems that monitor file sharing sites and public records and court records, but it seems like this is a common threat today. I just wish lifelock had credit monitoring but like they say, that only tells you AFTER there is a problem and Lifelock is more about trying to stop the problem before it starts. No matter what anyone says, there is no foolproof way to stop identity theft with 100% certainty, but this service seems to be one of the best, especially with Command Center. hope this helps someone.

      2. Joe says:

trying to enroll in lifelock is not easy!! i SIGNED up for the command center plan for my wife and me BUT because
we both have the same e-mail address the system locked me out. I called the toll free number and talked with one on the dumbest woman walking today. She had no Idea what I was talking about all she kept saying is “are you ready to sign-uo today?” After the third “are you ready to sign-up today?” I told her to forget it I’ll find another company.
